Installation Notes:

  1) i assume you have TeX installed and that your tex can a) read
files in current directory and b) make tfm metric files if missing.
if not, get my usrTeX.tar.gz (should be in the dir that you got
milieu.tar.gz). This is for Linux, of course, for other os, you're
     on your own.

  2) unpack milieu.tar.gz from / i.e., the files should go into /book

  3) references to /root are there because that's my home directory.
Yes, i normally run as root. Yes, is is dangerous and many advise
against it. Still, a fair number of us (Linux sysadmins of personal
workstations) do so; after all, how better to learn to be careful.
I've tried to remove local and/Linux dependencies as much as
possible..let me know what i forgot about!
I include the modes.mf that i use; also tgd-screen.mf has just
the tail end of it which has my local additions (sscreen, screen_topleft)

  4) The remake the dvi, run make. I assume that /usr/TeX/lib/mf/macros
is in METAFONT'S MFINPUT path (it is in my default compile).
You may need to change the default paths defined at the
     top of the makefile.
in the course of the make, you'll be asked for response when
playing the ttt3 game..just type 00 to quit it, doesnt affect
     the output.

  5) Installation of this package is not really meant for newbie's.
Rather, i assume it will be installed by someone able to teach
     the course that it documents.
Still, if you have trouble, email me for help.

  6) as you can see, the doc is still very rough and little of
the essential features of METAFONT are brought out. Hopefully,
that will improve in the not too distant future. Also, note
this is meant to be a general programming/literacy course so
if force mf unnaturally at times.

  7) Main To Do's
      a) flesh out current stuff; adding exercises.
      b) actually design and code a real font..my idea here is
to explore the use of triangular pens.
